Nature of Defect
An emergency situation occurred where the bottom slip on flange of the fire water system started leaking. Metalyte Pipeworks responded and was on the offshore installation within 24 hours
Solution
Metalyte Pipeworks had previously repaired a leak on the above flange where the client had requested for the bolts to be left visible to aid in a spool replacement. Unfortunately the bottom flange produced a leak before the piece was replaced. Metalyte Pipeworks solution was to apply Titan 505 injection system to seal the leak then an over wrap of 6 layers of field applied wet up composite system.
Repair Method
The Titan 505 system was installed to seal the leak with the flange being built up after to allow the composite to run up the flange and land on to the previously applied repair.
The pipe surface then had a resin bond coat applied prior to the application of the composite. The line was then wrapped in 6 layers of composite and allowed to cure. This repair was completed fully on line with no disruption to production or reduction to safety critical systems.
