3/4″ leaking valve bonnet

The bonnet of the valve was leaking in several locations due to internal erosion. The line was still in service, running at 15 bar g

The Problem

The platform had noticed that the stem and bonnet of the 3/4″ valve had produced several small leaks. They were unable to isolate the line and the leaks were slowly getting worse. The platform required Metalyte Pipeworks to seal the leak up and add strength using a composite repair

The Solution

Metalyte Pipeworks have developed a composite system which they can inject a sealant into and seal up leaks. A composite wrap is applied over the top to add strength and integrity to the valve.

How was it done?

The Metalyte technicians began by hand preparing and cleaning up the valve and surrounding pipe. They also installed an engineered divert and encapsulated it within a high strength composite wrap. Once the wrap had fully cured, the technicians built up and around the valve and applied the engineered wrap fully encapsulating the valve. This was left to cure before a sealant was injected into the composite to seal the leak. Extra composite layers were added to encapsulate the injection port.

The following day the technicians removed the compression film and completed the shore D hardness readings.
