NATURE OF DEFECT
Internal corrosion caused a through wall steam leak on a 10” elbow. The client had installed a temporary plate and banding to arrest the leak. A permanent composite repair was required to restore integrity while the line remained in service.
SOLUTION
A high-temperature composite repair was engineered to ASME PCC-2 to seal the defect and restore pressure containment with a 2 year design life. Leak sealing resins and injection ports were used to fully arrest minor steam release before installing a Black Dragon UHT composite wrap over the defect and adjacent pipework.
REPAIR METHOD
The pipework was prepared and stabilised around the existing temporary repair before installing an engineered high-temperature composite wrap. Any minor leakage was controlled and sealed prior to completing the structural reinforcement.
The repair was carried out live, fully encapsulated and cured, returning the steam line to service with a 2 year engineered design life.
