NATURE OF DEFECT
The 36 inch line had suffered from internal corrosion. This resulted in a pinhole leaking defect. The client applied a temporary leak stop, but the leak stop started leaking. The client required a composite repair to seal the leak location.
SOLUTION
Metalyte Pipeworks produced a repair method using a high tensile injectable composite to seal the leak with a minimum overwrap of 10 layers of Dragon-Q UHT composite system
REPAIR METHOD
Metalyte Pipeworks arrested the leak from the temporary leak stop using their injectable composite system. The surface was prepared using an MBX machine and 500 microns of Dragon resin were applied as a bonding coat. The repair area was wrapped in 10 layers of Engineered Dragon-Q-UHT composite and cured until a minimum of 74.5 “Shore D” hardness was achieved.
CONCLUSION
This live leak sealing repair allowed the client to remain operational until a full field planned shutdown.
