10 Inch Produced Water Tank Nozzle Live Leak Repair

A 10 inch produced water tank nozzle had developed a through-wall leak due to internal corrosion.

NATURE OF DEFECT

A 10″ produced water tank nozzle had developed a through-wall leak due to internal corrosion. The active leak was located at the nozzle connection and required a live repair to avoid shutdown.

SOLUTION

Metalyte Pipeworks designed and installed a live leak sealing and composite repair solution. An injectable composite system sealed the active leak, while Dragon composite systems reinforced the nozzle connection.

REPAIR METHOD

The active leak was arrested using the composite live leak sealing system. The repair area was then rebuilt and profiled using high-temperature lightweight filler before applying a Dragon resin bonding coat. A 4-layer Dragon Q-STD composite repair was installed to the nozzle connection together with a 450mm x 450mm reinforcement patch onto the tank wall. The repair was compression wrapped, heat cured, hardness tested and coated.

CONCLUSION

Metalyte Pipeworks successfully completed the live leak repair to the 10″ produced water tank nozzle. The repair arrested the leak, restored the integrity of the connection and allowed the asset to remain in service whilst avoiding immediate replacement of the nozzle assembly.
