NATURE OF DEFECT
An 8″ GRP flanged tee connection had developed a through-wall crack at the flange face, causing an active leak on a live fire water line.
SOLUTION
Metalyte Pipeworks designed a best endeavour composite repair to arrest the leak and restore the integrity of the flange connection.
REPAIR METHOD
The leak was arrested using Metalyte’s live leak sealing process before installing a 14-layer Dragon Q-UHT composite repair. The repair was then heat cured, inspected and finished with a protective coating.
CONCLUSION
The leak was successfully sealed, restoring the integrity of the flange connection without replacing the fitting and allowing the fire water line to remain in service.
