Leaking 6 Inch Sea Water Valve

The 6” valve was suffering from severe internal salt water erosion.

Nature of Defect

The 6” valve was suffering from severe internal salt water erosion. Several through wall defects have occurred at multiple locations around the full circumference of the valve behind the flange bolts. The client requires a repair solution that will seal the leaks and see them through to the valve change out.

Solution

Metalyte Pipeworks used there bespoke Titan composite system to seal the leaks under live conditions. A composite over wrap consisting of a Kevlar reinforced resin and a PU based wrap was applied once all leaks were sealed.

Repair Method

The valve was hand prepped where possible to remove any loose corrosion and paint. The Titan 505 composite was then applied over the leak area. The system was Injected with a combination of compounds to seal the leaks.
After the leaks had been fully sealed. A Kevlar reinforced resin was applied to the area with an over wrap of water activated composite. This was allowed to cure before applying a UV and chemical resistant coating.
