NATURE OF DEFECT
The 20” and 28” lines had suffered from joint gasket failure on a total of 4 flanges. There are 2 x flanges on the 20” line and 2 x flanges on the 28” line. The client requires a composite repair to seal the leak locations and to bring the lines back up to its full design specification.
SOLUTION
Metalyte Pipeworks have produced a repair method using Herculyte fillers and sealants to fill and seal the flanges with a minumim overwrap of 12 and 16 layers of Engineered Dragon Q-STD composite.
REPAIR METHOD
The flange OD will be wrapped in 4 layers of Dragon composite and injected to seal the voids. The surface was prepared to gain a surface profile to SSP.SP11 with a surface roughness of 55 microns. Dragon resin was applied as a bond coating to the entire repair area prior to application of the Dragon composite. The flanges were profiled and the repair area was wrapped in 12 and 16 layers of Engineered Dragon Q-STD composite.
