NATURE OF DEFECT
The 32 inch raw water line had suffered from internal erosion resulting in multiple through-wall perforations around the pump reducer connection piece. Several temporary repairs were already installed, with multiple locations still leaking.
SOLUTION
Metalyte Pipeworks designed an engineered repair using the Dragon Q-UHT composite system. The repair was designed to seal the multiple leak locations, reinforce the affected area and provide a 10-year design life.
REPAIR METHOD
The leaks were controlled using bonded steel plates and injection ports before injecting resin to arrest the leaks. The existing temporary repair was encapsulated before the area was prepared and 6 layers of Dragon Q-UHT composite were installed. The repair was compression wrapped, heat cured and coated with two layers of UV protective paint.
