6 Inch Hot Oil Line

This 6” hot oil transfer line has suffered from external corrosion resulting in several through wall leaking defects in a localised area.

Nature of Defect

This 6” hot oil transfer line has suffered from external corrosion resulting in several through wall leaking defects in a localised area. The client had applied a temporary wrap which wasn’t successful. They requested a composite repair to seal the leak & halt any further corrosion and to bring the line back up to full design.

Solution

Metalyte Pipeworks plugged the through wall defects and built up the corrosion pitting using a high compression high temperature load transfer resin. A two part field applied composite was then wrapped over the desired repair area to bring the system back up to full design.

Repair Method

The temporary wrap was removed and the full repair area prepped to SSP-SP11 to ensure all corrosion was removed and the required surface profile was gained. All defects were then built up to repair the wall loss and through wall issues.
The pipe surface then had a resin bond coat applied prior to the application of the composite. The line was then wrapped in 6 layers of composite and allowed to cure before a UV protective coating was applied.
