Defect Description
Multiple sections of external corrosion were identified across five crude oil lines, reducing wall thickness significantly (up to 83% loss in some areas). In total, 31 separate repair locations were required to restore integrity.
Repair Method
Metalyte Pipeworks designed and executed a composite repair program in accordance with ISO 24817:
-
Surface preparation by shot blasting to SA2.5.
Defects faired with Herculyte epoxy resins to restore line geometry.
Application of Dragon Q-STD composite system, 4–6 layers depending on defect severity.
Curing controlled with heater blankets and monitored to ensure correct hardness and
temperature.
Repairs finished with UV- and chemical-resistant epoxy coating for long-term protection.
Outcome
-
31 repairs were successfully completed across 16”–36” crude oil lines.
Repairs achieved a 20-year design life.
Lines were restored to full operating integrity without the need for replacement.
Full QA/QC documentation was provided, including hardness testing, temperature records, and
repair ID tagging.
