DEFECT DESCRIPTION
The line had suffered severe external corrosion resulting in through-wall failure. The affected section had multiple holes and active leakage at the time of arrival. Shutdown and replacement were not feasible, so an engineered live-leak sealing solution was required to reinstate full operating conditions.
SOLUTION
Metalyte Pipeworks developed a live-leak sealing and integrity repair using Herculyte sealing products followed by structural reinforcement. The solution involved stopping water escape through injection sealing methods and applying a composite overwrap to restore strength and prevent further deterioration.
REPAIR METHOD
The substrate was prepared using MBX tooling and damaged areas were profiled. Resin bonding layer was applied followed by a composite wrap of engineered Dragon Q-STD material. The repair was cured under controlled conditions until required hardness values were achieved, reinstating full integrity for a minimum period of five years.
