Nature of Defect
The 24” line was found to be suffering from severe ‘full circumferential’ external corrosion over the full length of the spool resulting in a possible through wall defect. The client requested that no surface preparation was to be carried out and the repair is to ensure that the spool doesn’t totally fail.
Solution
Metalyte Pipeworks solution was to apply 12 layers of their bespoke Sea Dragon composite system. This would halt any further corrosion issues and build the strength back in to the line for full operational requirements.
Repair Method
Loose scale and debris wash brushed off with a soft bristled brush before a load transfer resin was applied over the heavy scale. The pipe surface then had a resin bond coat applied prior to the application of the composite. The line was then wrapped in 12 layers of composite and allowed to cure.
