24 Inch GRE Sea Water Line

A hairline crack was identified on a 24" GRE Seawater line at the flange, resulting in a leak.

Nature of Defect

A hairline crack was identified on a 24″ GRE Seawater line at the flange, resulting in a leak. Due to the location of the support, Metalyte Pipeworks had to work closely with the client to aid in the fabrication of the new support.

The Solution

Metalyte Pipeworks solution was to first seal the leak using their bespoke Titan 505 system, then apply a total of 8 layers of their bespoke field applied composite system. The bolts were built up to enable the composite to land on to the outer circumference of the flange.

Repair Method

The full length of the repair was prepped to SSPC.SP2 to gain the surface profile required for the composite to adhere to. The titan 505 live leak system was then applied and injected to seal the leak.

4 layers of Dragon composite was then applied and left to cure before the flange bolts were built up and smoothed out. A final 4 layers of Dragon composite was then wrapped to encapsulate the entire area including the flange.
