12 Inch Methane Line

The 12” line had suffered from internal wall loss.

NATURE OF DEFECT

The 12” line had suffered from internal wall loss. This resulted in a through wall pin hole defect just above the injection point and wall loss between both locations. The client requires a composite repair to seal the through wall locations and to bring the line back up to its full design specification.

SOLUTION

Metalyte Pipeworks produced a repair method using Herculyte epoxies to seal the defects with a minimum overwrap of 28 layers of Dragon-Q-UHT composite system.

REPAIR METHOD

The substrate was prepared (excluding the identified defect area) using an MBX machine to gain a surface profile to SSP.SP11. Defects within the immediate repair were repaired and 2 Layers of Herculyte 427 impregnated Cayman cloth was applied and allowed to cure. 500 microns of Dragon resin was then applied as a bonding coat and the repair area was wrapped in 28 layers of Engineered Dragon-Q-UHT composite and allowed to cure until a minimum of 74.5 “Shore D” hardness was achieved.
