12 Inch Crude Oil Line

The 12” line had a through-wall defect that the client temporarily contained with a clamp.

NATURE OF DEFECT

The 12” line had a through-wall defect that the client temporarily contained with a clamp. The clamp was not leaking; the composite repair was specified to overwrap the clamp and add integrity to the line.

SOLUTION

Metalyte Pipeworks produced a repair method using Herculyte epoxies and applied a composite overwrap of 8 layers of Engineered Dragon Q-STD composite system.

REPAIR METHOD

The substrate was prepared to SSPC-SP11 using MBX. Dragon resin bonding coat was applied, and the repair area was wrapped in 8 layers of Dragon Q-STD with ≥50% overlap and 179 mm axial extent beyond the defect. Six layers of compression film were applied. The repair was heat-assisted to ≥60 °C and accepted on reaching ≥74.5 Shore D hardness with temperatures logged.
