The Shell of fuel oil tank T-803 had suffered from external corrosion

NATURE OF DEFECT

The shell of fuel oil tank T-803 had suffered from external corrosion. The client required a composite repair to repair the defects and to have a composite overwrap applied.

SOLUTION

Metalyte Pipeworks technical team developed a repair method using Herculyte epoxies to repair the defects then 8 layers of our engineered Dragon-Q-UHT overwrap.

REPAIR METHOD

The area was prepped using a MBX / Bristle blaster. Herculyte epoxies was mixed and applied to repair the defects. Once cured 500 microns of Dragon resin was applied as a bonding coat to the entire repair area prior to application of the Dragon composite. 8 layers of Dragon-Q-UHT was applied followed by 6 layers of compression film. The composite was then heated with the use of a heater blanket to 66°C to aid curing. Shore D readings was taken from ten areas of the repair. Two layers of UV protect was applied. QAQC was signed by technicians and client.
