NATURE OF DEFECT
The 56” line had suffered from external corrosion. This has resulted in significant wall loss and localised through wall defects which had been plated over. The client requires a composite repair to bring the line back up to its full design specification.
SOLUTION
Metalyte Pipeworks produced a repair method using Herculyte epoxies to build over the defects with a minimum overwrap of 6 layers of Dragon-Q-STD composite system. At T35 there were obstructions and a reduction in landing area was required in one direction. 10 layers of Dragon Q-STD were applied at the reduced landing area.
REPAIR METHOD
The surface was prepared (excluding the identified defect area) using an MBX machine to gain a surface profile to SSP.SP11. Surface defects within the immediate repair area were repaired using Herculyte resins. 500 microns of Dragon resin was applied as a bonding coat to the entire repair area prior to application of the Dragon composite. The repair area was wrapped in 6 layers of Engineered Dragon-Q-STD composite and T35 location was wrapped in 10 layers and the composite repair was cured until a minimum of 74.5 “Shore D” hardness was achieved
