36 Inch Crude Oil Line

The 36” line had suffered from external and internal corrosion

NATURE OF DEFECT

The 36” line had suffered from external and internal corrosion. This resulted in local wall thinning. The client required a composite repair to protect the line from further external corrosion and bring the line back up to its full design specification.

SOLUTION

Metalyte Pipeworks produced a repair method using Herculyte epoxies to fill the external defects with a minimum overwrap of 8 layers of Dragon-Q-STD composite system.

REPAIR METHOD

The surface was prepared (excluding the identified defect area) via on site shot blasters to gain a surface profile to Sa 2.5 and any defects within the repair area were repaired using Herculyte resins. 500 microns of Dragon resin was applied as a bonding coat to the entire repair area prior to application of the Dragon composite. The repair area was wrapped in 8 layers of Engineered Dragon-Q-STD composite and allowed to cure until a minimum of 74.5 “Shore D” hardness was achieved
