Nature of Defect
The Foam Tank had suffered an axial crack along the weld from a suspected original manufacturing defect. The client requires a composite repair to stop the leak and to bring the tank back up to full design.
Solution
Metalyte Pipeworks solution was to apply Titan 505 leak seal system in a patch formation to seal the leak with an over wrap consisting of 6 layers of Dragon composite.
Repair Method
The repair area was prepared using a rough boy rotating tool to gain a rough surface profile adequate for the composite to adhere to. The Titan 505 system was applied and injected to seal the leak along the length of the crack.
The tank surface then had a resin bond coat applied prior to the application of the composite. The tank was then repaired with 6 layers of composite and allowed to cure before a 2 part protective coating was applied.
