10 Inch Fire Water Main

The 10” Fire Water main was found to be suffering from external corrosion on the outside of the elbow.

Nature of Defect

The 10” Fire Water main was found to be suffering from external corrosion on the outside of the elbow. This has resulted in a through wall live leaking defect.

Solution

Metalyte Pipeworks used their bespoke composite leak sealing system to stop the leak. Then 6 layers of their epoxy composite system was applied. This would halt any further corrosion issues and build the strength back in to the line for full operational requirements.

Repair Method

The full length of the line was shot blasted to Sa 2.5 to remove all corrosion and gain the surface profile required for the composite to adhere to. The leak was then stopped live and the composite system applied over the full repair area. The repair was coated in a UV protective coating.
