1.9″ Carbon Steel Nozzle

This tank was operating at ambient temperature with atmospheric pressure. The nozzle had a small weep on the weld which required sealing before the engineered composite was applied.

The Problem

The 1.9″ nozzle had suffered severe internal corrosion causing a through wall defect. This required immediate attention.
The client required a repair that would seal the hole, prevent any more corrosion and return the pipe back to its original design requirements.

The Solution

Metalyte Pipeworks used a combination of high bond strength resins to seal the leak.
Once the leak was fully sealed, the technicians applied the composite repair to strengthen the nozzle and stop any further loss of containment.
As the internal issue can’t be stopped the landing area of the composite was extended to hold back any further through wall defects that occur.
